Who will the new mayor for the city of coal be?

The Speaker, Executive Mayor, Whip of Council and the local municipality’s representatives to the district municipality will be elected on Tuesday.

The question on everybody’s lips is ‘who will take over the reins at the helm of the municipality?’

During the first council meeting the Speaker, Executive Mayor, Whip of Council and the local municipality’s representatives to district municipality will be elected.

This is happening on Tuesday, November 23.

The public is invited to join the first council meeting after the recent local government elections.

Section 29 (2) of the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act, 1998 provides as follows: “The municipal manager of a municipality or, in the absence of the municipal manager, a person designated by the MEC for local government in the province, must call the first meeting of the council of that municipality within 14 days after the council has been declared elected or, if it is a district council, after all the members to be appointed by local councils, have been appointed.”
