Church helps to spread love

The kids were reminded that they are the special gift from God, and they are loved by God

Christmas is a time to celebrate God’s faithfulness and steadfast love throughout the year, families gather together in lunch and dinner celebrations, enjoying best-prepared food, families and friends exchange gifts of love to each other.

Most children would get new clothes from their parents. But this privilege of enjoying nicely prepared meals, seating around the table with family and friends, receiving and exchanging gifts, is limited to the few families who are fortunate and privileged, not everyone gets to experience such fun, celebration, generosity and fellowship.

That is why the Witbank Methodist Church for many years, have been reaching out to Highveld House of Safety, which is housing orphaned children, neglected children and homeless children, who are varying from the age of six years to 18 years.

The house is offering a warm, loving, safe and friendly atmosphere for the children.

Last year, once again, they reached out to the house of safety, asking each child, to write down their wish lists for Christmas, they warmly welcomed the idea, and the church received 12 wish lists from the 12 children currently housed there.

The wish list varied from clothes, school uniforms, school stationery toys and goodies.

Witbank Methodist Church thanked the congregation members who responded very positively and generously in fulfilling all the wish lists for each child in the house.

The congregation members also gave generously all the ingredients for the Christmas lunch, including drinks, desserts and Christmas decorations.

On December 23 the Minister Rev. Phezile Koekoe, society stewards and the outreach ministry convenor, visited the house of safety, where everything was handed out.

Words of encouragement and love were shared by the Minister from Matthew 25:42-43: “For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.”

The kids were reminded that they are the special gift from God, and they are loved by God, these gifts of love brought by the church are a reminder that God is love, and God’s love reaches out to all people.

Witbank Methodist Church members continue to serve the Louise Clinic patients/clients with sandwiches and fruits, people who are waiting in long queues, before receiving public health care services.

Thank you to everyone for all the acts of kindness and compassion you have shown last year.
