What ‘fine’ outcome for cable thief

59-year old Godfrey Mnisi was found guilty on charges of having stolen copper cables

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela highly praised the Ga-Nala District Court after a fine of R5 000 was given to a cable thief, after being found guilty.

On January 11, 59-year old Godfrey Mnisi was found guilty on charges of having stolen copper cables.

The court was informed that on September 21, 2021, police received information that a suspicious Ford Ranger ‘bakkie’ was transporting copper cables, travelling from Vandyksdrift to Kriel.

The police immediately attended to the matter and shortly afterwards spotted the mentioned vehicle and stopped it.

Upon searching it they found three bundles of copper bars, which the driver, Mnisi admitted were stolen at the mine, whereupon he was arrested.

“This is what you call; good teamwork done by alerted police officers along with the prosecution team,” Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela concluded.
