OR Tambo bridge suicide victim identified as Nelson Mahlangu

The police call upon the community to help them find Mahlangu’s family as he is still in the Witbank mortuary

In November last year, a shocking video surfaced of a man jumping from the OR Tambo Bridge, and now two months later, the police are seeking his family.

“The results of his fingerprints came back, and the man was identified as the 27-year-old Nelson Oko Mahlangu. SAPS followed up the address that was registered on his name and it led us to Tonga,” said communication officer Captain Eddie Hall from Witbank Police Station.

Unfortunately, his family did not reside there anymore, and it was a dead end.

The police call upon the community to help them find Mahlangu’s family as he is still in the Witbank mortuary.

“If anyone has any information that can lead to his family or the whereabouts of the family please get in contact with the investigating officer, Sgt GM Zitha on 078 594 2783 or 013 655 5044,” Capt Hall concluded.

WITBANK NEWS reported on November 5 about the shocking event of that day.

“Witbank SAPS has confirmed that it was a suicide as the man allegedly told some contract workers doing maintenance on the bridge that he has personal problems and was about to jump from the bridge. The deceased was wearing blue t-shirt, black trousers, green and black sneakers and has a tattoo of a hand on his right shoulder.”
