Emalahleni actor schools young community members for free
Khomotso ploughs acting seed in eMalahleni for young actors and actresses.
The craft of acting and performing fictional roles requires talent, passion and patience.
These three characteristics have kept and motivated Khomotso Mathebula to pursue the career path.
The eMalahlani-born actor found his niche and is excelling in both theatre and television productions.
His love for performing arts began when he was cast to play in school drama, and from then, he has never looked back.
Khomotso was a part of Izodela Community Development Theatre Company, which is based in eMalahleni, when he was still young. The 39-year old mainly participated in acting and dancing.
The thespian began to develop a love for music as he grew. He was spotted and mentored by Sello ‘Chicco’ Thwala, which led him to record his first musical project.
“I started auditioning for various roles and managed to get my first role in a movie which was aired on television. I was privileged to work with other talented and well-known artists. The movie was called ‘Thandeka’ and it was directed by Stephen Visser,” said Khomotso.
More roles came in theatre productions for Khomotso which made his love for his craft increase. Mathebula was starred in theatre productions such as ‘Unontombi’, ‘Kitchen Stories’, ‘Hang Them High’ and other corporate industrial shows.
Throughout his journey, Khomotso kept his humility and roots with him.
“I came back after I was involved in a car accident. I decided to start giving acting and performing classes to the young children from my home town. I noticed that many children are focused on getting into careers that is relating to mining. This is because of the surrounding mines in our area. I wanted to bring a new perspective to them and I have realised that some do have talent,” added Mathebula.
Mathebula started hosting acting classes at the civic hall with the help of his friend. The team identifies and trains young talents from the community.
Most of the children are scholars who commit themselves every afternoon.
Khomotso established his own production company and also works with Ubunutu Creative and Cultural Ensamble.
He has not yet launched his drama due to financial constraints, yet he believes his drama will blow people away should there be funding.
