Is the Cogta report real or not?

A leaked report caused a lot of controversy.

A report doing the rounds, implicating several role players in Emalahleni Local Municipality in alleged fraudulent activities, is creating quite a stir.

However, the ‘detailed investigation report’ that is alleged to be coming from the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) was ‘leaked’ to media houses.

WITBANK NEWS contacted Cogta to verify the report but has not yet received any confirmation from the department.

The report details alleged findings in an investigation conducted by the department into the affairs of Emalahleni Local Municipality.

The assumed investigation involved allegations of maladministration, fraud, corruption, and other malpractices.

Mr Lebo Mofokeng, the municipal spokesperson said the municipality has not received any report from the MEC of Cogta who instituted the investigation.

“As soon as the report is received, all necessary processes will be communicated. At this stage the municipality cannot express any opinion on the inquiry,” Mofokeng said.

WITBANK NEWS will keep readers up to date as soon as the report has been validated.
