Eskom investigates fire that broke out at Duvha Power Station

It has been confirmed there was a fire at Duvha power station this morning.

The power utility Eskom said it is investigating the fire that broke out at Duvha power station this morning.

This comes after Unit 2 at the power station caught fire during synchronisation this morning at around 09:00.

The Eskom national spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said the fire has since been contained and the power utility is investigating the root cause of the fire.

According to other sources at the power station, the fire was caused by an oil leakage at the unit.

The extent of the damage is also still under investigation and the unit has been taken out of service until the investigations are completed.

There were no injuries reported from the incident after videos of the fire circulated on social media.

Eskom said it will release an official statement about the incident in due course.
