Business owners on high alert after multiple tuck shop burglaries

The robbers have allegedly been ripping roofs open and forcing open burglar doors to gain entry to shops.

Local business owners are on high alert following a series of business robberies targeting tuck shops in eMalahleni.

In the first incident, a man told the police that on the afternoon of July 9, he had been at a tuck shop in Kwa-Guqa when he suddenly heard a group of men demanding that he open the door.

When he refused, the gang reportedly climbed onto the roof of the building and forcefully ripped it open to gain access to the shop.

The men allegedly made off with groceries, some cash, and a cellphone.

Around 22:15 on the same day, another man reportedly experienced a similar incident at a shop in Ackerville.

According to the police, the man said he had been waiting for his brother to return when he heard a loud noise outside.

When he went to check, he discovered a group of men who had allegedly forced open his burglar door.

The suspects allegedly looted groceries from the shop and loaded them into a vehicle parked outside.

The police responded swiftly and arrested one of the suspects.

The police appeal to anyone with information that could assist in solving these cases to contact their nearest police station, call the Crime Stop hotline on 08600 10111, or submit anonymous tip-offs via the My SAPS App.
