So far, five people have died as a result of using braziers
This winter, police advise people to use heating devices with caution.

With this cold winter, braziers or mbawula (a container used to burn charcoal or other solid fuel for cooking, heating or cultural rituals) are used, but they have their own drawback, and Vosman
Police are urging people to use them with extreme caution.
This is in response to the five people, including an 11-months-old boy, who allegedly suffocated from the use of braziers.
The public should be aware that not only braziers but other heat suppliers used during winter can be hazardous and sometimes fatal.
In the latest incident on June 20 at Extension 5 in Empumelelweni police were called to a scene where a man was found dead.
When they arrived, they discovered a person on the bed, with no sign of life.
Next to the victim, police found a brazier and the man was certified dead by emergency authorities.
On June 17, at Extension 12, police were called to a death scene. On their arrival, they found the owner of the house, who pointed to them a man lying on the floor.
Emergency ServicesPersonnel were summoned to the scene and they declared the victim died as a result of gas inhalation.
In another incident on May 21, police were called to Lynnville after a house burned down.
Police found two bodies inside the rubble, including a two-year-old girl, a 29- year-old woman, and a
man who survived the fire and was taken to the hospital.
It is alleged that a brazier inside the house started the fire.
On May, 11 a man told police that when he returned home from work at midnight, he found the house covered in smoke, due to a brazier that had been left burning.
His wife as well as children were asleep and appeared unconscious.
He was able to take them outside, however; the toddler was unresponsive and was rushed to the hospital, where he died of smoke inhalation.
Vosman Police stated that they understand the cold weather, but warn the public that when using a brazier or gas, to follow the correct protocols and open windows for ventilation.
