Woman allegedly raped by a former boyfriend

The man allegedly took her to his house where he kept her throughout the night.

October was barely a week old when a woman fell victim to the horrific crime of rape allegedly at the hands of her former boyfriend.

The incident is believed to have occurred on October 7.

It is alleged that the victim was with a friend when her former boyfriend took her away with force by grabbing and pulling her arms.

It is believed that he took the victim to his house, locked the gate and door and had an object in his hand that appeared to be a panga.

He allegedly took off her clothes, raped her without protection and kept her there throughout the night, during which he further proceeded to rape her twice.

It is believed that the victim was taken to the hospital and the suspect was arrested.

Residents should be cautious of the danger posed by the crime of rape.

The SAPS recommend the following general safety tips for individuals, among others:

-You should be crime conscious and aware of crime opportunities at all times.

-Never walk around alone, and don’t talk to strangers.

-Be on the lookout for strange cars or people.

-Walk in well-lit and busy streets and a group, if possible.

-Make sure your home is secure, and become a member of the armed response service.

-Be sure you know all the emergency numbers or have them displayed in an accessible area.

-Always inform someone where you are heading and how long you will be gone. But think twice before advertising your impending absence on social media. Criminals also have access to Facebook and Twitter. Know all emergency numbers. Trust your instincts.

-Avoid going onto a congested street where you cannot even walk properly ‒ that is where you will find criminals pick-pocketing.

Crime is a sad reality in any community and comes in many horrific forms.

Residents should remain cautious of potential offenders in their midst ‒ some may even be a former partner.
