A motorist driving on the N4 on Monday, Mr Sfiso Gweba, said he fled for his life.
He was driving on the N4 near Vosman when the strike began.
He said he stopped and left when he felt his life was in danger.
It is believed that the police were shooting at angry protestors, and they moved in the direction where Gweba’s abandoned car was.
Some of the strikers began pushing the car to where they then set it ablaze.
Gweba later returned to the scene, only to find his burnt-out car and parts looted.
“I can’t even speak; I’m in shock because I have no idea what happened, and this is my only vehicle,” Gweba, who resides in Vosman, said.
“Circumstances regarding the shooting of the 50-year-old woman are being investigated while investigations are also underway into the allegations that the victim as well as two others who reportedly sustained some injuries, were shot by a member or members of the police,” said Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.
