Thank you for going the extra mile Johan

A member of Blancheville Neighbourhood Watch went beyond the call of duty during a chase. He broke his knee in the process and the neighbourhood showed their support by presenting him with a certificate and money residents raised.

Dedication and commitment are what members of the local neighbourhood watches are known for.

Just over a month ago, Mr Johan Breytenbach acted on a call from a resident in Blancheville alongside other members he does patrols with.

During a chase Breytenbach did not see a hole and in his haste fell into it. He broke his knee.

An operation followed and he is now recovering at home.

“Johan is a true reflection of brotherhood with his bubbly personality and positive attitude,” said the neighbourhood’s chairman Mr Riaan van Wyk.

Van Wyk said residents in the area collected money and this was handed over to Breytenbach to cover some of the medical costs he has to pay

“Thank you Johan for literally ‘breaking your leg’ and keeping our neighbourhood safe. To everyone who so generously donated, thank you very much,” Van Wyk said.

The neighbourhood has a WhatsApp group and invites residents of the area to join the group and the patrols.

To join the patrols contact Mr Charl Smit who is in charge of the nightly roster: 079 494 0944.
