Murder and attempted murder recorded weekly in Vosman

The young male who was shot dead was found by a man heading livestock in Kromdraai.

Vosman Police have reported an increase in murder and attempted murder cases in the area.

This comes after a policeman was officially on duty together with his colleague when he received a complaint about a man lying on the street.

Upon arrival they found the man to be deceased and next to his body there was a 2x9mm cartridge and one projectile.

The victim allegedly succumbed to three gun wounds on his back and stomach.

Community members said that they heard gunshots around 04:00 on Sunday, February 19 at Mugababa Squatter Camp.

eMalahleni seems to have a serious problem with gun violence or the availability of firearms at the hands of culprits.

In a separate incident reported, police received information about someone who has been shot dead on Saturday, February 18 at around 05:00.

When police rushed to the scene of the crime, they found a male victim lying on the street.

It is also reported that he couldn’t speak properly and had a gunshot wound on his back.

Although the victim was struggling to talk, he was able to introduce himself.

The victim was wearing black trousers and he had no clothes on his upper body.

An ambulance transported him to Witbank Hospital for medical attention.

The crime scene was searched for any clues or exhibits (cartridges) without success.

When the victim was visited at Witbank Hospital by police he was still in a critical state and could not talk.

In Kromdraai, two young men were shot near a mine.

One male victim succumbed to his wounds, whilst the other was rushed to the nearest hospital to receive medical treatment.

The young male who was reportedly shot dead was found by a man heading livestock.

It is alleged that an unknown shepherd was watching over his stock at the grazing field along the mine at Kromdraai when he discovered a body of a man person lying dead on his back wearing a blue Jean, orange T-shirt, and black shoes.

The witness reported the matter to the police who attended the scene.

The deceased sustained two gunshot wounds in the stomach, one on the right thigh, and one on his cheek.

According to police reports, upon doing inquiries on the crime scene, the deceased victim’s mother alluded that her son was asked by a known man to accompany him on Friday,

February 17 around noon. Initially, her son refused, and later changed his mind and told his mother that he is accompanying the known man, but the victim never came back home.

The following morning another unknown male reportedly visited the mother to inform her that her son was shot the previous night and that she must go and search for the deceased in the field.

The deceased victim’s mother asked neighbours to accompany her to the field to look for her son.

The second victim was hospitalised when he was interviewed by the police.

The victim alleged that they were going to pick up some scrap at the mine and before they reached the mine, there was a drone flying around the mine.

Suddenly people emerged from nowhere and started shooting at them and they ran away in different directions.

After noticing that he got shot in his stomach and was powerless, he was taken to hospital.

Vosman Police Captain Vusi Mnisi said the police are currently experiencing a high rate of murder cases and are mostly derived from mob justice where the community is taking the law into their own hands.

He also said that last year December the station had 15 murder cases reported of which 12 were as a result of mob justice.

From the beginning of January 2023 the station had registered eight murder cases of which six are as a result of mob justice, “We urge the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and those involved will be arrested,” he assured.
