Women come together to open their hearts and support each other
Women are faced with GBV, relationship problems and other family-related problems.
They came to share, listen, comfort and support each other as women under the theme ‘Heart to Heart’.
The event was organised by well-known social personality Frieda Manana.
Frieda is a young raising star of eMalahleni who has been working with young people in Vosman. She has offered them the hope they deserve. She is the founder of Phanda Mzansi Modelling Agency.
Well-known activist Sonto Nyembezi said they met to discuss different concerns they face as women.
She pointed out that they are faced with GBV, relationship problems and related family problems.
“Family issues may have an impact on children growing up, resulting in some of them ending up in relationships. Some families have favouritism toward children, and the excluded children might even end up staying on the streets. We need to have harmony in our families, even if we are poor. Poverty must not lead us to do wrong things to our families,” said Sonto.
She gave an example of a young mother of seven children from KwaZulu-Natal who ended up at her orphanage because she was rejected at home.
She said it was a very sad story and did not know what to say.
One of the speakers, Phindi Mbonani, related her sad family story of how she was subjected to exclusion by some family members while staying with her stepfather.
She told the women her problems after they were staying with her stepfather and how her half-sisters did not recognise her, and she felt unwanted.
She related her difficult life when she felt used while she was unemployed and her partner was not accepted as well.
Other speakers presented their stories, but in the end, the women agreed that they need to unite and support each other.
