Mayor gives Easter message to residents of eMalahleni

Mayor says the great meaning and spiritual significance of Easter resonates well with the collective unprecedented hope, courage, spiritual renewal, and restoration of Ubuntu values.

As we approach the Easter weekend Emalahleni Local Municipality Executive Mayor Councillor Conny Nkalintshana shared a heartfelt message to the residents of Emalahleni.

“Fellow Residents, on behalf of Emalahleni Local Municipality leadership collective, I extend blessed greetings and Holy Easter 2023. United in our diversity, let us rejoice together in celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ our saviour.

“The great meaning and spiritual significance of Easter resonates well with our collective unprecedented hope, courage, spiritual renewal, restoration of Ubuntu values (moral regeneration) and commemorating our ancestral rich cultural heritage for example communal life historically known as “Ijima” wherein a village or community will pull together their energies and resources to deal with complex challenges of the day (social cohesion).”

The mayor outlined that the Holy Easter for this year must also signify the resurrection of the ‘Ijima’ Campaign in Emalahleni that aims to:

  • Keep eMalahleni clean including our graveyards.
  • Fight against GBV and femicide.
  • Pray for zero tolerance for road fatalities, particularly along N4.
  • Fight against all forms of crimes and social ills (safer city).
  • Significantly reduce abject poverty, unemployment and all forms

of unjust socio-economic inequalities.

  • Improve service delivery but also a civic obligation to pay your municipal account.

“To the church, Christian compatriots and leadership of the faith community thank you for your continuous spiritual uplifting and supporting the municipality through public participation processes to improve the quality of life in our communities. It will be amiss of me if I do not extend heartfelt Easter,” she outlined.

Clr Nkalitshana also sent her regards to those that are sick and in hospitals, “Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

“As you take a short Easter break to reconnect with your loved ones you are reminded that it is in our homes, in family units where the strength of the city lies. In this regard, we appeal for the indulgence of the faith community to pray for the strong family bonds which are the precursor to the bright future of this municipality.

“Fellow residents, we have proven repeatedly that when we stand together, we can conquer any challenge and test of time as one people, as one community.”

In closing, the mayor said she would like to encourage motorists as well as pedestrians to be cautious when using the roads, to not drink alcohol and drive or walk – ARRIVE ALIVE!

“Be your neighbour’s keeper by reporting any suspicious movement in your neighbourhood. I wish you and your family a blessed and happy Easter.”
