Robbers increased their ‘point’ score when they robbed a woman at a grocery store on Mandela Street recently.

The incident occurred at approximately 18:00 on March 24 when a woman was shopping for groceries.

It is believed that she agreed with an unknown man to pay for the groceries with his points and pay him money in return.

While talking, another man approached and confirmed that he had used points on a previous occasion.

It is believed that they agreed that the victim waited outside the store for the groceries with one of the men with another trolley full of groceries she had bought elsewhere.

She allegedly realised that the men were up to criminal business and told the man she and her husband would fight them.

The man is believed to have shown her a firearm, taken the groceries she had along with cash and her cellphone, and fled the scene.

As safety tips against cash robberies, the SAPS provides that if you need to pay accounts, consider options that are lower risk instead of withdrawing large sums of cash.

Carry as little cash as possible.

Consider the convenience of paying electronically (consult your bank to find out about other available options) and consider making use of cellphone banking or internet transfers, or ATMs to do your banking.
