‘OpieG goes to South Africa’ is a published children’s book which was written by Annalie Riekert and illustrated by Yvette de Beer, both residents of eMalahleni.

‘OpieG goes to South Africa’ is the first book in the series of One Plus God Ministries, an American-based organisation.

‘OpieG’ is a meerkat that goes on mission trips to different countries around the world. The purpose of the series is to plant the seed for missions in the hearts of children while sharing OpieG’s adventures in a new country.

“In this book, OpieG specifically came to eMalahleni because of the longstanding connection between One Plus God Ministries and Ministry Through Movement, a local ministry,” said Annalie.

The series is also directed at Christian character building and each book will focus on a different characteristic.

In this book, the focus is on contentment. The book also includes an activity book which gives more facts about meerkats and South Africa.

A very successful launch of the book took place recently and was attended by 24 Americans and a few residents of eMalahleni.

Annalie did a book reading and Yvette explained the lengthy process of illustrating a book. Attendees had their books signed by Annalie and Yvette.

The book was first printed in America where 300 were sold already.

The first batch that was printed in South Africa is sold out and due to new orders a second batch will be printed soon together with the translated version: ‘OpieG reis na Suid-Afrika’.

The second book in the series, ‘OpieG goes to Israel’, is already in the making.
