Residents of Highveld Association for the Physically Disabled were filled with glee when an Easter Egg hunt was held at their home in Jackaroo Park. 

On Saturday, April 1, Ward Councillor Maureen Scheepers visited the home to spread some cheer by hiding easter eggs in trees and plants around the home for residents to find. 

Each resident was given a bunny basket to fill with the sweets they find. 

“The physically disabled are the most marginalized sectors of the community and deserve the full support from all structures. This was more than an Easter Egg Hunt, but the personal one-on-one time spent with each disabled resident is what made it a heart-warming and special day,” said Maureen. 

Maureen also said that seeing the smiles on their faces and hearing their laughter throughout the day was the best reward for her.

“I will continue to support this centre and always include them in monthly events,” said the ward councillor. 

“I would like to thank my co-host, activist Henryette Jacobs for all her hard work in assisting this day to be such a success. Thank you to all the other activists that attended and to all the sponsors and support from the community. We are stronger together,” Maureen concluded. 

The owner of the centre for the disabled, Grietjie Naudé could not be happier for the time well spent by the attendees on Saturday. 

“We, the Highveld Association for Physically Disabled management would like to thank DA Councillor Maureen Scheepers and her assisting team for a wonderful surprise for persons living with multiple disabilities. Many thanks for your participation, support, love, and compassion toward the persons with disabilities during the Easter time,” Grietjie said. 

Grietjie also said that they feel so blessed by the public’s generosity, especially Maureen’s’. “Your positive dedication makes you a very special person, who always walks the extra mile in the community and the lives of people, especially the needy ones in your community. The egg hunt and braai organised by you were an outstanding event for the disabled.” 

Grietjie also quoted one of the residents, Iban Moller on the day of the easter hunt saying, “This day was so special; it felt like we went for a visit in heaven.” 

“This was a day full of devotion,” Grietjie concluded.
