Checkmate for Nkangala Chess tournament

eMalahleni learners exceeds at chess tournament.

Learners from Middleburg and eMalahleni came together to play against the best in chess.

On Saturday, 13 May learners from primary and secondary schools were hosted by Hoërskool Generaal Hertzog for the Nkangala Chess Federation.

Those who take part play against each other in friendly matches leading up to the South African Junior Chess Championship (SAJCC) in December.

The top players in the primary school division were Duncan Maseko from St Thomas Primary who came in first place with a score of 4.5.

In second place was Thandolwethu Mgidi and in third was Markus de Klerk with a score of 4.0 from CR Swart Primary.

Toka Mashego, Tshegofatso Mojela and Uzanenkosi Masikane. \

In the secondary division, Sephesihle Nkosi came in first place with a score of 5.0.

William Hussey came in second with 4.0 and Geraldine Nkhwashu in third with a total score of 3.5.

Players will compete again on July 29 at Steelcrest High in Middelburg.
