Man allegedly sets ex-wife’s home on fire
According to the new boyfriend, the ex-husband violated his protection order.
Witbank Police arrested a 42-year-old male suspect for allegedly setting his ex-wife’s shack alight in Old Coronation.
According to the victim (38), she was at her home with her children and boyfriend on the fateful day.
On Tuesday, September 12 at around 03:20 she supposedly heard her ex-husband screaming and cursing outside her shack, “He said I must tell my dog, referring to my boyfriend to leave. He then banged the door demanding to see the children and when I told him it was late, and they were sleeping, he threatened to burn down the shack,” the female victim explained.
She went on to say that after her ex-husband threatened them, he left, and she assumed he would not return. But to her surprise, the ex-husband allegedly returned with two litres of petrol.
According to the female victim’s boyfriend, they were informed by neighbours to vacate the three-room shack with the children, “the neighbours started screaming that we get out of the shack because the ex-husband wanted to burn it,” the male victim explained.
The boyfriend went on to say that the ex-husband had threatened them the night before, Monday, September 11 when he supposedly violated his protection order.
“She told him that he is not supposed to be here as per police instructions and left when she threatened to phone the police on him,” the boyfriend said.
He went on to say that when the ex-husband returned, he began pouring petrol around the shack. In just a nick of time, the victim, her children and her boyfriend were able to escape.
Unfortunately, they could not retrieve any of the items inside the house before the fire spread, which subsequently burnt the shack to the ground.
