Young man volunteers to teach and hopes someone will help him to complete his studies
Despite financial challenges, Theophilus continues to inspire hope in his community by sharing his knowledge and passion for education
Theophilus Mokwala born and bred in eMalahleni started his school at Khonzimfundo Primary School and completed his secondary at Kopanang Secondary in 2010.
He then started teaching math to Grade 10 learners at Kopanang Secondary School in 2016 after being hired by the SGB and in 2017 assisted Grade 12 learners during the end-of-year matric camp after doing well in the subjects himself.
He also assisted learners by having classes in an after-school programme teaching maths and science to learners to improve their results.
He did the same at Bonginsimbi Secondary School teaching Grade 12 during the after-school programme and moved to Ilanga Secondary School teaching maths and physical science during the 2017 June Winter classes.
He was asked by the secondary school principal to teach after one of the school teachers was sick, teaching maths to Grade 10’s.
Theophilus was a substitute educator in the intermediate phase teaching natural science and technology, he was said to be dedicated, proactive and always on board with educational issues.
He has also volunteered his services teaching learners in his neighbourhood.
“I have wanted to help other learners since I was a student myself, the only problem is that I want to be a qualified teacher but due to financial constraints I could not after finishing matric. I could not continue with my IT studies at TUT because of finances, but my wish is to go back and study,” Theophilus pointed out.
He is recommended by most of the schools he has taught and is presented as a hard-working individual and an asset in any institution where he can expand his career path.
Even though Theophilus has sacrificed his time and energy he is prepared to go the extra mile but only needs support and hope that somebody or a company will help him to continue with his studies.
He spends most of his time at the library in Lynnville.
He would like to encourage learners not to lose hope because he is also hopeful that one day his prayers will be answered.
