Water supply disruption in eMalahleni

Thungela Reclamation Plant maintenance is underway. Residents are asked to conserve water during supply modifications.

Emalahleni Local Municipality has initiated a strategic response to upcoming planned maintenance at the Thungela reclamation plant, a critical component of the municipality’s bulk water supply infrastructure.
Scheduled to take place from today (January 17) to 18, the maintenance work aims to optimise the functionality of the water plant, ensuring its efficiency in contributing approximately 20 megaliters per day to the municipality’s water supply.
During this period, residents in certain areas of eMalahleni may experience a temporary reduction in water volumes, ranging from 5 to 10 megaliters over the next two days.

This could result in low water pressure or, in some cases, a brief interruption of the water supply.
To limit the impact on residents, the municipality has proactively scheduled the deployment of water tankers, ensuring a continuous and accessible water supply throughout the maintenance period.
Authorities inform the public that every effort is being made to minimise disturbance and restore normal water supply levels by the weekend, specifically on Friday, January 19.
The municipality recognises the potential disruption and apologises for any inconvenience, emphasising the need for maintenance to ensure the long-term stability of the water system.
Residents are asked to conserve water during this temporary period of limited supply.
