Two arrested with car jamming devices, firearms, and ammunition to appear before court

Suspects charged with possession of firearms and ammunition may face further charges pending ballistic testing of the recovered weapons.

Two suspects, aged 34 and 37, are expected to appear at the Witbank Magistrate’s Court today (February 8) on charges of possession of firearms with ammunition. The two were arrested around eMalahleni on Tuesday, February 6, and were reportedly found in possession of a car jamming device, which police believe could have been used during the theft of motor vehicles.

According to reports, a sting operation by the multidisciplinary team was conducted, and the first suspect (34) was cornered in Tasbet Park.

It was during this time that the team discovered a 16-channel signal-jamming device as well as a firearm in the possession of the first suspect.

Through investigation, the team was led to a certain residential place around 14:40, where they found the second suspect (37) who was reportedly found in possession of a firearm with ammunition.

Provincial Spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli said, “The confiscated firearms will undergo ballistic testing to check if the weapons were not previously used in the commission of crime elsewhere. Therefore, the possibility of adding more charges against the suspects cannot be ruled out at this stage.”
