42-year-old man found guilty and convicted for theft of bank card

Long investigation leads to conviction of bank card thief in eMalahleni.

Sifiso Joshau Mashika (42) has been found guilty and convicted for theft of bank card by Emalahleni District Court.
On Thursday, February 8 Mashika was sentenced to a fine of R8 000 or two years imprisonment of which R6 000 or one year is suspended for five years on condition that the accused is not convicted of theft during the period of suspension and declared unfit to possess a firearm.
This comes after the accused was arrested by the Middelburg based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for theft at Klipfontein FNB branch.
In court it was heard that in June, 2018 Mashika was pretending to assist a complainant when he stole her bank card.
The suspect was searched and found in possession of the stolen bank card. He was arrested and detained.

The matter was referred to the Hawks for further investigation.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks Major General Gerber applauded the team for ensuring that justice prevailed. “Criminals should know that the Hawks will ensure successful convictions no matter how small or complicated cases may be,” he said.
