Motorbike drivers targeted

Motorcyclists have become easy targets for criminals in eMalahleni

A troubling trend of motorcycle thefts is putting riders in danger as criminals increasingly target these vehicles in the City of Coal.
The most recent incident occurred on Thursday, June 13, when a driver’s motorbike was carjacked in the central business district.
The owner of the motorbike, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed the incident.

He revealed that his vehicle, a high-performance model often referred to as a ‘big boy’ motorbike, was stolen around 19:00.

According to reports, the complainant was approached by a suspect, and the other three suspects, armed with firearms, pointed and threatened him, forcing him to get off before driving away on the motorcycle.

The owner expressed concern that this type of crime has become alarmingly frequent, “It’s becoming the norm for criminals to steal motorcycles. The same day mine was stolen, another motorbike was reported missing,” he said.

Captain Eddie Hall from Witbank Police Station gave out these tips: “Do not stop around hijacking spots or in any secluded area. Always be alert when driving. If you suspect that you are being followed by a suspicious vehicle, drive to the nearest police station or call the SAPS emergency number 10111.”
