Hawks looking for info about heist on the Ogies Road

Armed robbers reportedly attacked a cash van next to Goedgevonden Mine and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The weekend kicked off with a CIT heist next to Goedgevonden Mine, on the Leandra-Ogies Road.

The heist happened on Friday, 12 July at 17:30.

According to Hawks spokesperson, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, it is alleged that a G4S Cash Solution Fleet Toyota Hino, was ambushed on its way back to eMalahleni after collecting money from surrounding towns.

” At Goed Gevonden Mine the suspects started shooting at the vehicle with rifles and pistols, forcing it to stop. After the vehicle had stopped, the suspects forced the occupants from the vehicle and disarmed the crew. The suspects then placed explosives on the vehicle and bombed it. They fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash,” Sekgotodi said.

The robbers fled in a white Toyota Etios, silver Ford Kuga, and gold Toyota Corolla.

The Hawk’s provincial head, Major General Nicholas Jacobus Gerber, said that these types of crimes place financial institutions under threat and put communities at risk.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s Colonel Mokwana at 082 461 9278.
