Suspects sought after undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes stolen

Police urge anyone who recognises the suspect in the footage to come forward.

Police are hunting for two suspects in a robbery at a local fuel station in the Central Business District. The suspects were caught on camera, and with the community’s assistance, police are hopeful they will soon be apprehended.

The incident occurred on Thursday, July 4, around 19:00.

According to reports, a cashier was on duty inside the shop when the first suspect entered, carrying a black bag.

Following store policy, the cashier asked the man to leave the bag at the entrance.

Moments later, a second suspect entered, casually purchasing sweets and chocolates before positioning himself by the door. In a chillingly coordinated move, the first suspect retrieved the bag, allegedly pulled out a firearm, and threatened the cashier, demanding all the cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspects then fled the scene.

Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson for the Witbank SAPS, urgently called on the public to assist in identifying the suspects. “We urge anyone who recognises the suspect in the footage to come forward,” he said.

Witbank SAPS is looking for the suspect caught in the footage during a robbery at a local fuel station.

Hall also offered vital safety tips for business owners to prevent future incidents: “Be vigilant during opening and closing times, always work in pairs, and ensure all entrances have deadbolt locks. Train your staff to ask for identification before allowing anyone entry, and keep cash registers in plain view for police monitoring.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Witbank Detective Services at 079 891 4809, Crime Stop at 086 0010 111, or use the MySAPSapp.
