eMalahleni may finally have a new mayor, after more than a fortnight of the mayoral position standing open.
Reports have come through that the front runner for the position is Vusi Nhlapho, after scoring higher than his competition, former Emalahleni mayor, Salome Sithole, and Technical Services MMC, Busi Hlumbane.
This news comes after a special Provincial Executive Committee meeting of the ANC in Mpumalanga earlier today.
Numerous political issues were addressed, such as vacancies for executive mayors, and the upcoming by-elections.
Nhlapo was recommended by the panel after rigorous interviews of various candidates and the recommendation was accepted.
The council is said to be gearing up to have a special sitting where they will officially elect Nhlapho into the position of mayor of Emalahleni and hand him the mayoral chain.
