Armed robbery rocks local business in eMalahleni
Armed robbery strikes in the City of Coal as suspects fled with a cargo of diesel
A daring armed robbery has left a local business reeling after thieves made off with a valuable cargo of diesel.
According to police reports, on Monday, July 29, the complainant alleged that a security guard reported for duty at 18:00 the day before, and was performing a routine patrol of the premises when he heard suspicious sounds near the front gate at about 03:00 the next morning.
After further investigation, the guard observed a truck with a diesel tanker and no visible registration number being permitted access to the site by an individual.
When the guard approached the group and inquired about the delivery, three suspects allegedly emerged from behind him, allegedly produced a firearm, and pointed it at the guard.
The suspects then allegedly stole an undisclosed quantity of diesel from the property before fleeing the scene.
The robbery has caused shockwaves in the local business community, with many demanding stronger security measures to prevent such instances in the future.
“If anyone has any information regarding this business robbery, we encourage them to please contact the police. We also ask businesses to as far as possible lock away any valuable items like TVs, computer screens, and tablets from sight to prevent the temptation for criminals to target them,” commented Witbank SAPS spokesperson Captain Eddie Hall.
The Witbank Police are presently investigating the robbery and encourage anyone with information to contact the SAPS Emergency Number 086001011, MySAPSApp, or the Witbank Detective Services standby number 079 891 4809.
