Abongile’s case is back on the court roll
The GBV case is placed back on the court roll. The suspect is set to appear in court on Friday, September 6.
The Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) case from Vosman on Abongile Allessing has been reinstated on the court roll.
The suspect, a 42-year-old male, is set to appear at Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court on Friday , September 6.
The case involves alleged assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, as reported by a 38-year-old Allessing on Sunday, August 4.
Following the initial arrest, the case was removed from the court roll, and the suspect was released, which sparked outrage and huge support for the victim amongst community members.
However, the investigation team, in collaboration with prosecutors, worked to revive the case.
Additionally, allegations of delayed police response to the incident are being investigated internally. The SAPS emphasises its commitment to prompt and effective response to GBVF cases, ensuring victim safety and well-being.
The acting provincial commissioner, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, appreciates public support for the victim but cautions against interference with the investigation and prosecution.
“We plead with members of the society to allow the team a space to do due diligence on this case without any distraction. We understand, though, that this is a sensitive issue which is being attended to by the relevant stakeholders. The team is working together and professionally in order to do the correct thing. We do not want a situation whereby we will lose focus and unnecessarily open loopholes for the suspect to walk free. We are happy that the date is set, though we wished for an earlier date, but let the wheel of justice move into the right direction, “said the general.
Furthermore, the Executive Mayor of Emalahleni Local Municipality, Clr Vusi Nhlapo and the MEC of Community Safety, , Security, and Liaison, Jackie Macie, visited Allessing at Witbank General Hospital.
Nhlapo emphasised the need for community support to prevent GBV and encourage victims to speak out without fear of discouragement.
He mentioned that the Transversal unit in Emalahleni Local Municipality is available to assist with GBV matters. The MEC promised to monitor the case and its outcome.
