Pensioner commends Witbank Police for swift response amid house robbery
The woman told WITBANK NEWS that Witbank Police Sergeant Fikile Makeke returned her stolen cell phone to her following a house robbery.
An elderly woman from Del Judor wished to extend gratitude to the Witbank Police members who truly lived up to their oath to serve and protect citizens after an alleged house robbery.
The woman who wished to remain anonymous told WITBANK NEWS that culprits broke into her home on Saturday, July 13, and allegedly stole her cellphone. With the help of Witbank Police Sergent Fikile Makeke and Warrant Officer Donovan Wearing her phone was returned to her.
“I always go to bed at 21:00, before I sleep I lock the sliding door but that night my son was busy outside. I also charge my phone on the cupboard next to the door every night. The next morning on Sunday, July 14 I woke up at around 06:30 and my phone was not in the charger. I took my son’s phone, dialled my number and my phone went to voicemail,” the woman explained.
She went on to say that when she checked, the sliding door was not broken into; however, she does suspect that the burglar may have gained entrance through her neighbour’s Louver Pre Cast Walls
At around 14:00 her doorbell rang and to her surprise, it was two policemen.
“Those policemen are good people, I feel blessed,” the woman appreciated.
It is alleged that the burglar went to an overnight pawn shop on Mandela Street at the corner of Mandela and Mana Street (behind Crazy Plastic).
The elderly woman shared that she has been a resident at Del Judor for over forty years and has never been a victim of any crime.
According to Sergeant Makeke who has a close working relationship with over six pawn shops in the area, she was contacted by the shop owner when the burglar did not know the passcode to the phone he came to pawn.
The shop owner allegedly told Makeke that an African male came to the shop with the phone, but when he opened the phone, it seemingly belonged to an old white lady as he went through the pictures.
“I would like to show appreciation to the officers who returned my stolen cellphone. Thank you so much. Your service is well appreciated and highly valued too,” the woman ended.
