In celebration of Mandela month, the Ladies Circle Witbank 26 (LCW26), along with CSC (Christian Social Council) and a local power station came together to make a difference in the lives of children in need.

A book drive was organised to collect gently used children’s books for five local children’s homes cared for by the LCW26 Witbank.

The book drive took place on Friday, August 2. The initiative aimed to instill a culture of reading among children, who come from diverse backgrounds and have experienced various traumas.

The organisation believes reading could be a therapeutic outlet, helping the children relax and build a strong foundation for their future.

 

“For us, it is not just pages or books, it is about bringing healing, therapy, and nurturing to soothe their hearts,” said Caroline Mukombachoto from the LCW26.

Over a hundred books were donated, along with five bookshelves, one for each orphanage. The books were carefully selected to cater to children aged between four and 18.

“Reading is a fundamental right for all children. By reading, one can achieve a lot in life and continue to get inspired for a brighter future,” Caroline added.

LCW26 would also like to extend gratitude to all the sponsors as their support has been invaluable in making the project a success, and the commitment to betterment of the community that is inspiring.

The book drive aimed to encourage the children to overcome their past difficulties and pave the way for a brighter future.

The LCW26 organisation thanks everyone who donated books and supported this initiative. They will also keep striving to make a difference in the comunity, one initiative at a time.
