Police drags their feet – doctor complains
The doctor fell victim to crime twice and it cost him hundreds of rands

Dr Amos Monareng, a resident of Kromdraai, has expressed deep frustration with the Witbank SAPS after experiencing two separate theft incidents.
Despite providing detailed information about the suspect involved, Monareng claimed to have received little to no progress in either case.
Monareng said he opened a case on April 1, 2019, after his generator, worth R75 000, was stolen.
“I described the man to the police in the finest detail. The police questioned a suspect, and that was the end of it. Up to now, I’ve heard nothing from the investigating officer regarding the case,” he said.
Most recently, electrical cable was stolen from his property, causing a further R100 000 in damages.
On November 14, Monareng sent a message to the investigating officer “Is it how SAPS operates, that a case is reported, fingerprints are taken and what is regarded as evidence is handed to the police then it’s the end of the story. No feedback or progress report, no information whether steps were taken to verify if the given item can be linked to the suspect or not.”
He said he raised his concerns with Witbank Station Commander Brigadier Moses Bolton.
“I complained to Brigadier Bolton, and he got angry and implied that we are teaching him how to do his job.”
Monareng said he saw a photo of the man he suspects stole his generator and electrical cable, and that angered him, as he recognised the culprit and felt that if the police followed up on the leads he had previously given, the man would be behind bars sooner.
Monareng hopes that Witbank SAPS will prioritise these cases and bring the thief to book.
Witbank police spokesperson Captain Eddie Hall said there are procedures in place if the public wants to lay a complaint.
