Local pharmacy in eMalahleni falls prey to daylight robbery

Witbank police urge the community to be vigilant as business robberies are becoming a norm in eMalahleni.

A local pharmacy has become the latest victim of a string of robberies after suspects made off with cash in a bold daylight robbery.

According to the police reports, the complainant alleges that on January 23, four men entered the pharmacy pretending to be customers.

However, their true intentions were soon revealed when one of the suspects tapped the security guard on the shoulder and announced that they were there to commit a robbery.

The complainant further explained that when the suspect tapped him, he thought he was joking, but his skepticism was short-lived. The suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm from his waist and pointed it at his stomach.

Meanwhile, another suspect entered the office where the assistant manager was working. The suspect allegedly took out a firearm and demanded money.

The second suspect also entered the office, allegedly forcing the manager to open the safe.

The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount.

According to the complainant, the suspects fled the scene in a Suzuki vehicle with registration number KXX903MP. However, it has since been revealed that the registration number is reportedly linked to another person’s car.

“We viewed video footage from the shopping center’s manager’s office, which showed the suspects fleeing the scene. No shots were fired during the incident,” said the complainant.

“Witbank SAPS have noticed an increase in the business robberies, specifically at smaller businesses in town. The Witbank SAPS requests small businesses implement preventative measures against business robberies. Controlled entrances are important in preventing overcrowding in your premises; make sure you have measures in place to restrict movement at entrances and exits to your business for both staff and customers,” said Captain Eddie Hall, a spokesperson from the Witbank Police Station.

The police are investigating the incident, and the case is still ongoing.
