Phola SAPS conducts awareness event for people living with disabilities

Phola SAPS and Pows aim to bring together individuals with disabilities, inspire them, and gather data.

Phola SAPS, in collaboration with the Phola, Ogies, Wilge, and surrounding farms (Pows) organisation, hosted an awareness event at the Tholulwazi Care Centre.

The event, which took place on January 23, aimed to bring together individuals with disabilities, inspire them, and gather data.

Captain Vusumuzi Henzry Sibeko, Phola SAPS Vispol Commander, led the event, accompanied by Sergeant Petros Ntuli, Community Police Officer, and other representatives from the CPF, Youth Desk, Community in Blue, and the Foundation for Victims of Crime (Fovoc).

The event also featured the organisation ‘Disability is not Inability’ from eMalahleni, led by chairperson Sipho Tyobeka.

Nomasonto Mofokeng, a former councillor and community leader, also attended, showcasing her commitment to supporting people with disabilities.

“The awareness went well; we received much support from the community. We also received a lot of information, and sufficient data was collected. The event became a success because not only did we receive information about disability awareness, but we also learned about our rights and how to exercise them,” said Rachael Nyambe, the spokesperson from the Pows organisation.

The awareness event emphasised the importance of utilising SAPS services and reporting any form of abuse.

The police encouraged people living with disabilities to seek help and support whenever needed.

“This initiative demonstrates Phola SAPS’s dedication to promoting inclusivity and supporting vulnerable communities. By working together with local organisations and leaders, they aim to create a safer and more supportive environment for all,” concluded Ntuli.
