EFF demands action against alleged illegal mining in Likazi

The EFF will lead a community march on February 17 to submit a memorandum of demands to the municipality, urging all community members to join the fight for justice and equality.

The EFF Ward 14 branch is taking a strong stance against alleged illegal mining activities in Likazi Informal Settlement, following the tragic loss of a young life in a drowning incident at an unrehabilitated mine.

The PR Councillor, Maushe Collen, has conducted a thorough oversight investigation into the rampant illegal mining activities plaguing the Likazi Informal Settlement.

“Our findings are nothing short of appalling,” said Maushe.

Maushe condemned the illegal mining activities, stating that foreign-owned companies are exploiting the community, ravaging the environment, and putting lives at risk.

The EFF demands immediate action from the authorities, calling for the shutdown of illegal mining operations, arrest and prosecution of those responsible, effective regulation, and job creation for community members.

They will lead a community march on February 17, to submit a memorandum of demands to the municipality, urging all community members to join the fight for justice and equality.
