3 arrested following man’s death at so-called rehabilitation centre

A patient at a so-called ‘rehabilitation centre’ in eMalahleni was allegedly assaulted by security guards when he tried to run away.

The man who was found dead at a so-called rehabilitation centre yesterday cried out for help as he was mercilessly beaten, eyewitnesses told WITBANK NEWS.

It is alleged that men wearing balaclavas assaulted him with a baton and hit him with their fists.

Police spokesperson, Captain Eddie Hall said three suspects were arrested on February 13 following Sfiso Mcigo’s death.

31-year-old Mcigo’s naked body was discovered in a filthy room after he was assaulted because he allegedly ran away from the rehabilitation centre.

“My heart is broken. We did not know Sfiso was in the rehabilitation centre. He ran away from home in Mhluzi and we thought he was still nearby. His friends told us he was actually in a rehabilitation centre close to Siyanqoba,” said his aunt Nompumelelo Mahlangu.
