Residents tired of drinking dirty water

It is wise to be cautious and boil your water or use bottled water.

Dirty water is a norm in eMalahleni.

The municipality is aware of this problem, and an internal investigation focussing on water quality issues revealed that the municipality is not providing clean water to residents.

A year ago, the municipality, in a press release, vowed to ensure that every resident has access to clean, safe water.
They failed miserably.

An internal investigation made on water quality issues found that the municipality network team was not scouring pipes enough after conducting maintenance along pipelines.

Reservoirs have sediments settled at the bottom, and that affects the quality of water when reservoir levels go below 10% that led to the municipality adjusting pump configurations to stop pumping at an average of 13% to prevent abstracting sediments and to protect pumps from unnecessary damages.

Recently, reservoirs have often been below 13%.

The technical team is currently developing a reservoir cleaning strategy and programme to deal with the issue of sedimentation at various reservoirs.
