Siyabonga beats unemployment with his biltong recipe

From unemployed to businessman, a growing entrepreneur strives as his biltong business grows beyond his expectations.

Siyabonga Nhlapo, famously known as ‘Shante’, is a growing businessman with a strong business-oriented background.
The 27-year-old was raised by his grandmother, who was a hawker. Most of his friends are in the food business, which enabled him to gain some experience in the industry as he continued to help out his friends in their businesses.
Growing up in eMalahleni, he started eating biltong at a very young age and learned to appreciate it more and more as he grew older.

So, with the high rate of unemployment in our country, Siyabonga had to think of ways to make ends meet.

That was when he decided to revive his passion and a keen interest in food, particularly biltong, and started his own biltong hub.

“I was not satisfied with most commercial and local outlet biltong products and much of the commercially produced biltong, often confused with jerky, contains many unnatural ingredients and artificial flavoring,” he noted,

further adding that he saw a gap in the biltong market and then decided to embark on this journey.
Siyabonga developed his own unique recipe, and would not share it.

“I don’t use any artificial ingredients or flavoring; my product is made from 100% South African beef, salt, and spices. My most popular biltong (strips) is naturally a high source of protein, low in calories, and incredibly delicious,” he said without letting too much out.

Siyabonga’s biltong is worth the taste, and he had the final say before he prepared the next batch and said, “Snack time just got a whole lot more exciting with my biltong.”
