Emalahleni months are more than 40 days long

The local municipality’s billing system is in shambles and that leaves residents with enormous service delivery bills.

Emalahleni residents have been astounded by a significant hike in their municipal bills.

Several complaints were received by residents about what is perceived to be abnormally high municipal services bills.

The readings for the latest municipal accounts made it appear that consumption of services, specifically electricity, and water, were higher than normal compared to those of the previous months.

WITBANK NEWS took a closer look at the municipal bills and in most of the instances, the number of days included in the reading period is far above 30 to 31 days.

A pensioner from Ga-Nala was left distraught because her municipal bill was doubled this month.

There is a 45-day gap between her December and January readings and a 44-day gap between the January and February readings.
