HTS stands firm on saving lives
SANBS visited HTS to run a blood drive for learners, and the turnout met their target and beyond.
The recent drive that was held at HTS found learners ready to bleed for the country as always. Among the learners who donated blood, quite a number of them donated blood during all the blood drives run by the SANBS at their school.
“We run campaigns now and then to encourage learners to donate blood. We get new learners willing to donate blood every time we come here, and I think learners are just changing their minds and choosing to donate blood after every blood drive we run,” said Brian Mdhluli, donor recruiter of SANBS.
HTS learners are excited about the opportunity to make a change and save lives in their country, and they believe that it’s just a minimum way of helping where they can.
“I feel so excited about donating blood. The feeling that comes with saving different people’s lives is just unmatched,” Dian Bezuidenhoud, a learner at HTS, said.
Some even emphasised that they would do it over and over again.
The SANBS visits the school every two months, and they mentioned that a person can only donate blood after 56 days if they want to donate continuously.

“It’s not my first time donating blood, and I just feel like it’s important for me to do the bare minimum and save a life or two,” said Juané Nel, a learner.
“We are always happy about the turnout here, and HTS is one of our biggest schools in the region,” Brian added.
“It feels good to donate blood for people in need out there. It also feels good to see people out there going all out to donate blood. Let’s help those in need,” said Chris Smal, a learner.
The SANBS praised HTS for its great cooperation from the beginning of their drives, and they are encouraging people to stand up and donate blood. Learners also emphasised that the SANBS is doing a great job with them, as they initiated school blood drives.
