eMalahleni normalises daylight robbery – Fear both day and night

Daylight robbery incidents are on the rise in the City of Coal.

Daylight robbery is a problem in eMalahleni. Walking and driving seem the same, and the streets are full of those who want your property, regardless of the time of day or night.

This comes after recent incidents were reported where both pedestrians and motorists fell victim to daylight robberies around the streets of the City of Coal.

In one of the incidents, a motorist with a passenger was lost, trying to navigate their way around the Old Coronation area when an unknown man approached them.

The man allegedly told them that it was not safe to drive where they were, and they should go back as soon as they could.

As the motorist was doing as instructed, things suddenly turned upside down when the man who pretended to help allegedly pointed a gun at the motorist, demanding the motorist’s money to pay for the warning that he had just given them.

The motorist mentioned that the money she could offer was not enough, according to the man.

As they were still misunderstanding each other, another group of five unknown men allegedly showed up.

The six of them allegedly divided, and two were by the window sides of both the driver and the passenger.

The motorist, together with the passenger, was then allegedly told to get out of the vehicle and sit at the back.

The robbers allegedly searched the car, took their handbags and their phones.

The victims were allegedly robbed of their belongings, including money.

In the second incident, the victim told the police that he was walking to work by the N4 when two men approached him, allegedly pointed a firearm, searched him, and allegedly robbed him of his cellphone and cash.

No arrests were made for these incidents.

“Criminals’ traps are always ahead of your expectations. Be vigilant always,” Witbank Police Station spokesperson, Captain Eddie Hall, said.
