Beware of scammers posing as Emalahleni Local Municipality officials

Stay vigilant and verify before you act – scammers on duty in the name of the local municipality.

The Emalahleni Local Municipality has issued a warning to residents about fraudulent activities involving individuals posing as municipal officials.

These scammers are sending messages to residents claiming to represent the municipality and threatening disconnection of services due to alleged arrears.

Residents are encouraged to follow certain measures to protect themselves.

The measures include, but not limited to the following:
– Be cautious of unsolicited messages or visits from individuals claiming to be from the Municipality.
– Verify the identity of municipal officials by looking for official identification cards, marked vehicles, and branded uniforms.
– Do not allow access to anyone claiming to be from the Municipality without proper verification.
– Report any suspicious messages or visits to the Emalahleni Local Municipality or contact our Public Safety Division.

According to the Emalahleni Local Municipality, disconnection notices are issued through official written communication and their teams do not randomly visit properties without prior documented notice.
