Creative genius of Rietspruit produces change

With another talent behind the mixing desk, the creative young star believes the sky can never limit him.

Mkhusto KPM, born Khulekani Masina (26), is making a name for himself – bigger than just a name on a tracklist.

The creative KPM is the sound of Rietspruit pushing onto national dance floors. A proud alumnus of Lehlaka Combined School, KPM’s story started in 2016 in cramped bedrooms and community halls, where he and his crew began their music journey with nothing but borrowed laptops, free DAWs, and a belief that their hood had something to say.

That belief paid off. Today, he’s widely named the pioneer of music in his hood – the first from Rietspruit to engineer, produce, and release records that forced people outside Mpumalanga to take notice.
As a sound engineer, beat maker, and producer, KPM built his reputation behind the scenes before stepping into the spotlight.

He’s crafted and mixed for a new generation of SA talent: Weezy G, CK Dolla, La Jay Da DJ, Mpumie, Malefa, Karabo Uncle, Drowsy, SnipperSir, Abafana Bama President, Midnyt, and Shukumisa SA.
His defining moment arrived last year with Creative Ceniuses, the EP he released alongside La Jay Da DJ.

It was a cultural shift. In Rietspruit and surrounding townships, Creative Geniuses became the ‘game changer‘ – proof that kids from the kasi could make music that sounded global without losing their roots.
According to KPM, from the beginning, his manager, Mthokozisi Masombuka, has been the constant guiding force in KPM’s journey since his first steps in 2016.

Together, they built KPM Management Group Recording Company, an imprint KPM founded to own his masters, a platform for emerging artists, and to keep the business of music in local hands. But KPM didn’t stop at sound. He also launched a logistics company, applying the same discipline he uses in the studio to solving real-world problems. For him, entrepreneurship and artistry go hand in hand.

“My discography tells the story of that growth: the introspective uThando, the boundary-pushing PARIS, and the statement project ‘End of Era’. Singles like “Waste No Time” featuring Malefa & Mpumie, “Amacala”, and “Abantu Banomona” racked up streams on Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud, turning casual listeners into loyal fans,” he said.

And the work isn’t done. 2026 is loaded. KPM is preparing to release three highly anticipated projects: ‘End of Era’, a direct sequel that digs deeper into his sound; Mas’tandi EP, a project rooted in heritage and rhythm; and Creative Geniuses 2, the sequel to the EP that changed his hood’s musical landscape.

At his core, Mkhusto KPM is still the kid from Lehlaka who believes Rietspruit deserves a voice – whether he’s behind the mixing desk, laying down a beat, or running logistics.
