Mpapo Academy receives stationery and equipment boost from Eskom

The donation included a variety of office furniture, such as chairs, as well as essential office equipment like laptops, printers, and educational materials.

Mpapo Academy recently received a much-needed stationery and equipment boost from Eskom – Kusile Power Station in support of their initiative to uplift education in the Phola community.

On June 3, Eskom visited Mabande Comprehensive High School, where they met for the handover of the items previously requested by the organisation.

Founded in 2018 by Aubrey Mngomezulu, the academy focuses on tutoring learners in Maths and Science, computer lessons, 3D printing, and providing food parcels – they assist roughly 120 learners per year.

“The plan is for us to have our own centre and equipment. So, we had to ask for assistance from Eskom as some of the equipment is expensive,” Mngomezulu said.

The donation included a variety of office furniture, such as chairs, as well as essential office equipment like laptops, printers, and educational materials.

This boost will go a long way as the organisation plans on having its own centre and equipment so that it can be able to run all its programmes efficiently and effectively.

So, once they have their own place, it’s going to be a lot easier, as Eskom has already assisted them with the equipment.

“By providing Mpapo Academy with the necessary tools, we hope to support their mission of delivering quality education and fostering a culture of learning and growth,” Joseph Mashaba, manager for the Stakeholder and Communications Department at Eskom, said, adding that they are excited to see the positive impact that this donation will have on Mpapo Academy and its learners.

According to Mngomezulu, this boost will enable them to reach more students and hire more tutors and facilitators, adding to the eight they already have; it will also enable them to support more families as well.

“We are thankful to Eskom for the great support they have shown us. We also wish that they could continue to help more organisations out there because our community cannot do it alone, but we need big companies to support us to ensure that we make Phola great,” Mngomezulu concluded.
