Group of alleged armed robbers target Klarinet liquor store

Police warn business owners to bolster security measures.

A security guard stationed at a local liquor store in Klarinet Ext 8 found himself at the mercy of a group of armed robbers in a meticulously planned attack.

The terrifying ordeal unfolded around 00:40 on June 13, when the guard, alone on duty, was confronted by a man who allegedly pointed a firearm at him during his routine patrol at the back of the store.

According to the guard’s statement, the assailant approached him unexpectedly, seizing his hands and issuing a warning to the security guard, ‘If you scream, I will shoot.’ Before he could react, six additional men scaled the perimeter wall, each allegedly armed.

Under threat of death, the security guard led the robbers to the guard room, where he endured further physical assault.

Bound at the hands and feet, he was rendered helpless as the armed men stole his personal belongings, such as his cell phone, along with the company’s communication radio.

The criminals fled the scene soon after, leaving the guard bruised but alive.

“With armed gangs growing increasingly bold, businesses are reminded to bolster security measures and ensure the safety of their employees,” said Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson of Witbank Police.
