Rata Social Services in dire need of support

The organisation is asking for donations of toiletries, non-perishable food items, and clothing for the children in their care, amongst other things.

Rata Social Services, a child protection organisation in eMalahleni, is calling for support to continue its life-changing work.

According to Eugenia Richards, a dedicated social worker at the organisation, they provide family preservation services, equipping parents with essential parenting skills and offering stimulation programmes for children who are not attending school due to lack of documentation.

With over 70 years of existence, the organisation is also committed to providing foster placements as well as adoptions.

Part of their processes include screening families who will be trusted with the temporary care of children.

However, Richards highlighted the urgent need for donations to sustain their operations.

“We urgently require toiletries, non-perishable food items, and clothing for the children in our care,” Richards said, adding that they are in dire need of reliable transportation as their current vehicle is no longer roadworthy.

The social worker also emphasised the importance of upgrading their office equipment, stating that they need reliable laptops to ensure that they function optimally.

“We have to compile court investigation reports, therefore technology is important to ensure that we do our reports to the best of our ability,” she said.

Furthermore, they said their office requires renovations to create a safe and conducive working environment for the workers.

“We are committed to protecting and supporting vulnerable children in our community, and we cannot do it without the help of the community,” Richards said, adding that they would be grateful for any form of assistance so that they can continue to uplift the community of eMalahleni through the work that they do.

Those interested in supporting Rata Social Services can contact Eugenia Richards at 013 6561 755 or visit their office at 62 Mandela Street, eMalahleni, to learn more about their services and how to contribute.
