2 expected to appear in court this morning for possession of substances believed to be drugs

Operation Shanela is clamping down on crime in eMalahleni. Since its inception in May 2023, this operation has resulted in numerous criminals being incarcerated.

As part of the ongoing Operation Shanela, two men were arrested on suspicion of drug possession.

They were arrested in Vosman on July 25.

Police believe the substances confiscated are mandrax, crystal meth, and 96 units of what is also suspected to be drugs.

The value of the suspected drugs is R6 800.

The men, aged 33 and 45, are scheduled to appear in court this morning.

The operation was led by the Middelburg K9 Unit, Anti-Hijacking and Tracking team, as well as members of the Middelburg Highway Patrol Unit.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, praised the various teams that ensure perpetrators are brought to book.

Operation Shanela continues to target various criminal activities.

Regular stop and searches, roadblocks, vehicle checkpoints, high visibility patrols including foot patrols, the tracing of wanted suspects with a focus on murder and rape suspects, compliance inspections at liquor outlets and second-hand goods dealers in eMalahleni are done.
