Women’s Month is soaked in blood. Instead of celebrations, eMalahleni is mourning the death of three of their own.

Women’s Month celebrations are soaked in tears as three families are struggling to come to terms with the untimely death of three women.

A month in which women are celebrated is now overshadowed by an unimaginable loss.

All three women were torched and died due to their injuries.

Instead of talking about tomorrow, making plans for the next birthday celebration, the families are trying to navigate through the loss and put the pieces together.

As more details of the horrific acts fill the headlines, the light shines on the brutality of the incidents.

This tragedy reminds us that violence against women is a devastating reality. Behind every statistic is a mother, a daughter, a friend with hopes and dreams.

The three deaths also force us to face the ugly truth: GBV is a constant and terrifying part of life.

The women’s voices echo in the background, in an urgent plea to stop GBV.

While we look beyond the gestures, the ministerial visits, and the demand for change, we should ask ourselves what we are doing to protect women like the three daughters from eMalahleni.

@witbanknews In the wake of a brutal Gender-Based Violence attack involving two women who were torched by a man in Kwa-Guqa, another woman died in hospital after enduring the same. This tallies up to three GBV incidents in which women died. #GBV #Crime #Emalahleni #Witbank #justiceforher ♬ original sound – witbanknews
