Kwa-Guqa man accused of torching 2 women abandons bail application

The accused is now faced with two counts of murder.

A man accused of torching two women inside a room in Kwa-Guqa appeared before the Witbank Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed.

The 35-year-old was back in court earlier today, where he abandoned his bail application.

His case was then postponed to October 9 for further investigations, and it was said that he would remain in custody until everything is finalised.

The accused is faced with two counts of murder after allegedly torching his girlfriend, Nompumelelo Gamede (21), together with his sister, Antoinette Hill (23), on July 23, who both later died at the hospital.

According to Gamede’s father, the accused allegedly doused petrol on his daughter after a heated argument the couple had, together with Hill, who reportedly tried to intervene, and set them alight, leaving them locked in a room to burn.

Gamede’s family reacted to the court proceedings, saying, “We wish to see the case being finalised sooner because our daughter was brutally killed. We wish for justice to be served and soon.”
